Alain ‘Spiderman’ Robert, the French climber who has scaled over 100 towers, monuments and skyscrapers without ropes or suction cups - ascents include the Eiffel Tower, the 980ft Aspire Tower in Qatar plus two arrests on the 60th floor of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur - will be appearing in Manchester this Thursday, though not, as far as we know, climbing any local buildings.
Alain's at the Ellis Brigham Store at 130 Deansgate on Thursday 14 March between 1-3pm. As well as hearing about his exploits, there is the chance to climb the Vertical Chill Ice Wall www.vertical-chil.co.uk inside the store with him - the winner will be safely roped-up, so any risk is minimal and probably confined to catching his unusual climbing bug.
