Two 4x4 drivers from Derby have been successfully prosecuted for driving their vehicles on a bridleway near Ashover.

The pair are believed to be the first motorists to be fined under new powers given to police by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 for the offence of 'misusing a public bridleway'. The fines were £100 each plus £50 costs.

Bridleways are only open to walkers, cyclists and horseriders. More details in this BBC news story.
