A Book Signing With A Difference...

'Hills are stuffed with Swedish girls' author to launch second edition above Glencoe

The original cover which the OS spat their corporate dummy over and the new, bluer, OS-friendly edition on the right.

It's unusual to see an outdoors book being re-launched in an outdoors setting, but that's exactly what's happening with 'The hills are stuffed with Swedish girls', with a book-signing scheduled to take place at an altitude of 550 metres above Kinlochleven later this month.

OM regular, Elaina Smith – aka That Blonde Woman – takes up the story:

When “The hills are stuffed with Swedish girls” by Richard Happer hit the bookshelves last year there was a wee bit of a flurry over this debut novel as the Ordnance Survey had a paddy over the cover. Who’d have thought that a story about three blokes and their antics as they wander along the West Highland Way with their ginger cat could cause such a stooshie?

Now that the legal action has been dropped, the second edition with new, OS-friendly, cover will be launched at a rather quirky venue for a book signing – the top of the Devil’s Staircase, Glencoe on the West Highland Way.

Weather permitting the event will kick off at 12 noon on Saturday September 18th with the added lure of sausage butties from the author.  That in itself has been enough to get a few OMers interested who are in Kinlochleven for a meet that weekend, oh that and the promise that there may be some Swedish girls...

The book even has its own web site at www.the-hills-are-stuffed-with-swedish-girls.com which handily gives a GR for the signing venue - 216 576 on OS sheet 41...

Richard Happer has written a very entertaining novel, The Hills Are Stuffed With Swedish Girls, which is sort of about the WHW but due to its unique cover he got into a bit of bother with the OS who "requested" a new version of the cover.

On Sat 18th September Richard will be doing a book signing at the top of the Devil's Staircase to launch the new cover. He has hinted that some of the main protagonists form the book may also be in attendance.

AT & I thought it would be fun to have a wander over to the Devil's Staircase for the event so it's a great excuse for a meet.

As it has a WHW theme we thought Kinlochleven would be a good base with multiple accommodation options from camping & bunkhouse at Blackwater, camping, huts & hotel at The Macdonald Hotel as well as other B&B's in the area. There is also The Ice Facor to keep us occupied if the weather aint so great.

There's certainly plenty of walking options with the Mamores on the doorstep as well as Fort William and Glencoe within spitting distance.

So if anybody fancies joining us you're more than welcome
