The Scottish Highlands are the setting for the first round of the
Saab Salomon X-adventure World Series this weekend.
Some 47 teams will be starting from Glen Nevis and racing round
some of the western highlands most beautiful scenery.
Depending on your point of view that either makes the area one to
avoid this weekend, or the scene for a spectacular sport in an
awesome setting, except that with the best will in the world, it's
hard to pretend that adventure racing is much of a spectator
sport.
Much better, if you're interested, to follow the action with live
reports and photos on the excellent sleepmonsters.com
adventure racing site.
Where's the route? To quote sleepmonsters:
'The route will take a similar course this time, from Ben Nevis
Eastward across the country to the National Mountain Centre at
Glenmore Lodge, set below the sub-arctic plateau of the Cairngorms.
The teams who reach there successfully will have completed their
Scottish journey, but just begun their own world tour on the way to
Peru.'
