Alpkit has announced the first Alpkit
Big Shake Out weekend on 15-17 May, a
Yorkshire-based event with great opportunities to climb, paddle,
boulder, mountain bike or walk plus try out kit from various companies
including Alpkit themselves.
The idea of the weekend is to roll up to the Alpkit encampment in
Blubberhouses, camp with like-minded folk, enjoy Friday and Saturday
night entertainment with music and food and take advantage of the local
outdoors.
There's plenty to go at too: you can paddle on the beautiful Washburn
river. Pack your rack and take advantage of premium climbing at nearby
Almscliff or Brimham Rocks. Saddle up your mountain bike and ride
either the ace local bridleways or the notoriously rocky, read 'scary'
nearby Stainburn trail centre. Or simply take a chilled walk on the
local footpaths. Alpkit will be providing walking route descriptions,
so just bring a map. Or mix and match activities to suit your mood...
In addition Genesis bikes, Gibbon slacklines and Pyrahna
boats will be on site to demo their products and there will also be
some Alpkit demo gear for you to try out too.
Entertainment will include a Saturday night meal and Sunday morning
continental breakfast, a Friday Film Night, the Big Shake Out Party
with band and DJ and the AlpOlympics - we quote, 'these loony games
will test your balance and core body strength to the
max. Beat the Alpkit team to win a special prize'.
It all looks like being a fun, chilled-out and rather lovely way to
spend a May weekend. Tickets will go on sale from the Alpkit web site
on 1 May
and will cost £20.
Kids under 10 will get in free and under-16s must be accompanied by 'a
responsible but cool adult'.
