Alpkit is
throwing its weight behind an interesting new idea, the 84km Bivvy Challenge,
an informal invitation to get out and bivvy either on foot or on two
wheels over a variety of distances, not just 84km.
The challenge, started by two brothers who've just discovered the joys of
bivvying, is to take on an two-day minimum challenge over set distance
with a bivvy in the middle, then to document the trip with words and
photos which can be published online with the best efforts being
rewarded with both bags of kudos and some Alpkit geary prizes to boot.
The rules are simple, choose a location, plan a route, set a date and
spend 48 hours minimum out there enjoying and documenting your
adventure. There are two versions of the challenge, the 'Regular' which
is 84 km/52 miles on foot or 252 km/156 miles by bike and the
'Ultimate' covering 168 km/104 miles on foot or 420 km/260 miles on two
wheels.
If you're going to tackle the longer distance, chances are that you'll
be walking or riding in the dark, the regular version should be just
about doable in daylight.
We reckon it's a fantastic, inspirational idea and it's open until the
end of March 2010, so there's plenty of time to get planning and train
up your fitness to cope.
