The Big Shakeout
This year's festival takes place from 14th-16th October

The Big Shakeout is set to be the UKs most exciting adventure festival combining inspiration and perspiration over a diverse range of courses and experiences in the 'School of Adventure'. Teaming up with Thornbridge Outdoors and based in a great location in the heart of the Peak District the festival has put together an amazing line up of activites, instructors, guides and even one or two personalities. There promises to be something for everyone with the common goal to bring a bunch of like minded people together and have a great time.

Alpkit says:
“We are chuffed to bits to have some wonderful names coming on board with us at the Big Shakeout. Some places are very limited so you are going to have to be quick.

If you want to get more from a ride in the Peak then why not have skills trainer and guide Ed Oxley lead you round and keep a close, experienced eye on your style. Or if you’d rather have a more controlled skills specific session, then Campbell Coaching will get you pumping in no time.

Make your first steps from indoor climbing to outdoors, or improve your bouldering skills with masterclasses from two of the UK’s best, Shauna Coxsey and James Garden. Top climbing photographer Lukasz Warzecha will be offering snap shots into how best capture the bouldering action.

If you’re more interested in going subterranean, there will be a few opportunities over the weekend and experienced climber/caver and photographer Keith Sharples will also be running sessions on the tricky art of photography underground.

Ever wondered what you would do if you came across an accident in the hills, or how to prepare for an expedition? Spend a full day of First Aid action with two of our best mountain medicine men Mike Mowbray and Andy Clark.

There will also be plenty of activities to engage the whole family, bike maintenance sessions, kayaking and a host of other courses and demonstrations on offer.”

With climbing legends Andy Kirkpatrick and Jonny Dawes on board too, it should be a weekend to remember.

I went last year with my significant other. We drove from London to Sheffield after work on the Friday night, bogged down all the way by heavy traffic, arriving just as the bar closed...I was not a happy camper. However, the Alpkit guys saw my 'obvious disappointment' and kept the bar open so that I could have a few beers - can't ask for much more than that!

A great weekend and this time around it looks like loads more is available to do. I think I might just manage to squeeze it in before I'm off elsewhere this year.

A very chilled out weekend with lots of relaxed, fun people - I would recommend it.

Your other what

I saw the 'Shakeout' announcement on the Alpkit website and it looks like a good 'do' so I'll probably give it a go.
