Peak District based weekend of outdoors activities and general fun returns this October.
Alpkit's Big Shakeout! event is back for 2012, taking place at the Thornbridge Outdoor centre from 12-14 October and tickets are on sale right now.
The event's set to build on the success of last year's Shakeout and, once again, features camping on the festival site, evening entertainment and general nocturnal buzz plus, during daylight hours, a cracking mix of free workshops, demos and seminars.
Drink In The Nightlife...
The campsite area will, it says here 'buzz with live music, films and lectures in the evening and by day free on site activities including everything from bike maintenance, dry tooling and avalanche rescue techniques to camp cooking, circus skills and bushcrafting'.
And if you want to take things a bit further, maybe experience a new activity altogether or build on your existing skills - if you have any, we're not sure we do - you can enroll in the Alpkit School of Adventure, which consists of a series of short, affordable course in activities from paddling and caving through to climbing and mountain biking with instruction by a mix of Thornbridge Outdoors instructor along with elite athletes and coaches.
Once In A Lifetime...
There are also promises of 'once in a lifetime special courses' with details to be revealed closer to the event. Be very afraid. Or maybe just very excited...
In short, it's what you make of it. You could use the Shakeout as a base for walking, climbing or biking in the Peak. Spend the day with mates on the hill, then limp back to the camping ground for an evening of food and beer with a side order of Big Shakeout entertainment including live music, films and a bunch of other activities.
