Just a few months after losing its Post Bus service, Applecross could see a council run bus service cut from six days a week to just two. When the Royal mail Post Bus ended earlier this year the Highands Council provided replacement bus services from Achnasheen Railway Station to Applecross and Diabaig, but these routes are now under threat due to rising costs. The bus service has cost the council over £12,000, a 300% rise from the contribution paid towards the Post Bus, and council officials are warning that the cost is "higher than can be sustained".

Proposals to cut costs to a more affordable level include cutting the six day a week service to just two days, or running six days a week during the peak summer months and scaling back to two days a week for the remainder of the year. Both routes are popular with walkers and Munro baggers, with the Diabaig route making access to Torridon possible by public transport.
