The web site for the Arc'teryx Alpine ARC'academy has gone live meaning you can now book up for a host of alpine skills courses, seminars and cultural events including an Alpine Movie Night, and try demo gear from Arc'teryx and other brands into the bargain.
Taking place in the alpine Mecca of Chamonix of the weekend of 8-10 June, 2012, the academy will be led by experienced mountain guides and Arc'teryx athletes and includes practical alpine skills courses ranging from glacier training for beginners right through to advanced alpine climbing instruction. Prices for the skills events are 35 euros for all but the alpine climbing classes which are 80 euros.
Alongside the skills instruction are seminars where participants can learn about topics related to alpinism including the impact of climate change on the glacial mountain environment and the challenges to human physiology presented by the high mountains. And on the Saturday evening, there's an Alpine Movie Night featuring, erm, alpine movies and the chance to kick back and be entertained.
Finally, over the course of the weekend, participants have the opportunity to borrow demo gear to try not just from Arc'teryx buit other brands too including Gore-Tex, Scarpa, Petzl, Suunto and Primus.
Looks good to us, particularly if you happen to be in the Alps around then anway. There are full details and booking facilities on the web site at www.alpinearcademy.com where you can also enter a competition to win a day of climbing with Arc'teryx athlete Nina Caprez.
