Arran Gets Outdoors-Friendly Hotel

When two former Lowe Alpine employees decide to go into the hotel business, you can be sure of one thing: outdoors people get a warm welcome :-)

Hills and hotels don't always mix that well, somehow the average hotelier seems to get a touch of the Basil Fawlties at the sight of a pair of muddy boots or a mucky mountain bike, but there's one place now where you're guaranteed a warm welcome.

Not a bad spot we reckon, but nicer in the flesh :-)

The Glenartney Hotel on Scotland's beautiful Isle of Arran has just been totally refurbished by its new owners Robbie Mallinson and Angela Elliott-Walker. If you're in the outdoors industry and those names sound familiar, it's because the pair have a long association with Kendal-based Lowe Alpine and just recently upped sticks to take on a new challenge.

So, along with a view of Arran's highest peak Goat Fell and across the bay to mainland Scotland, you also get a warm outdoors welcome, big breakfasts, expert advice on the local terrain and activities plus a drying room and bike store. They also promise to welcome back muddy dogs with open arms and a large towel.

'Despite its relatively compact size, ' says Robbie. 'Arran has a really big mountain feel. There is so much to do here, whether you want to walk climb, bike, fish, watch birds or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere'.

The hotel's web site is still under development - the rest of it's finished, honest - but you can get further details by phone on 01770 302220 or email info@glenartney-arran.co.uk

Interesting! I may well be in touch...

I like the muddy dogs bit too!

Yeah, I quite like the idea of muddy dogs being towelled down while the owners stand around shivering in the background :-)

Not that that would ever happen of course...

It's usually the muddy dogs getting towelled down by the shivering owner in this house, so having someone else to do it would be nice!
