Asgard Climb Begins
Snow in August on Baffin Island, but Houlding and team are now on the wall.

If you're been following our coverage of Leo Houlding and
his team's Asgard Project,
you'll know that Leo, and his two fellow climbers, made an unplanned
sky-diving arrival at the base of their objective on Baffin Island and
now we have the first photo of conditions at the base of the face.
As you can see, it may be August, but up in the Arctic Circle, things
are still pretty cold with a fair amount of snow hanging around below
the sheer face itself, one of the hardest big walls in the
world. You can just about make out two portaledges in the
centre of the photo, bigger image on the site.
Apparently conditions are cold, snowy and with very limited visibility,
so for the last couple of days, the team have been reduced to sitting
around, playing cards and generally passing the time. Now, though, they
seem to have started the climb...
There are plenty of images from the walk in and base camp on the
Project's web site at www.theasgardproject.com and you
can follow the latest progress both on the web site and by searching
for Asgard Project on Twitter and / or Facebook.
