Top climber Leo Houlding
is featured in the Daily
Telegraph this week with his latest project described as
'an adventure that makes even that Top Gear challenge seem like a muggy
afternoon’s doze' - the reference, of course, is to his race
with Jeremy Clarkson to the top of the Verdon Gorge.
Asgard Project Part One from
Posing Productions
We've already told you about the hybrid climbing / BASE jumping Asgard
Project which is being recorded by
award-winning film-maker Alastair Lee. Briefly Holding and climbing
partner Sean Leary are planing to make the first free ascent of the
West Face of Mt Asgard on Baffin Island before jumping from the tower
wearing wing suits.
The Telgraph article adds some more colour. The team will trek 30 miles
in to the wall itself, spend two weeks climbing it, BASE jump from the
top and then repeat the route in under 24 hours before jumping from the
summit yet again.
All quite, erm, mad really. Or in the words of it's main protagonist:
“The nice thing about this project is that it really is pure,
raw adventure. We don’t need to dramatise it. This is modern
exploration.”
Houlding goes on to talk about climbing, BASE jumping and the nature of
fear and it's well worth a quick read along with a viewing of the
Asgard project video.
