Asgard Project Underway

Leo Houlding's Baffin Island climb and jump mission has begun in earnest.

If you're following Leo Houlding's Asgard Project - he and his team are aiming to climb and then base jump a remote and difficult wall on Baffin Island - then you might like to know that the team has set off for the wall and the expedition is finally underway.

According to the team's Twitter Page, they set off early on the morning of Thursday July 30 on the three to four day hike in to the bottom of Mt Asgard, their objective. Apparently snow melt turns the approaches to the mountain into soft tundra underfoot, limiting the amount each climber can carry to just 25kg or so.

Unfortunately an expedition of this scale needs rather more than that, given that the team could spend up to two weeks on the wall and are also carrying filming equipment. To get round the problem, Houlding arranged for five haul bags and 11 massive barrels of kit and food to be shipped in by snowmobile before the thaw, so, polar bears with can-openers permitting, a full dump of supplies should be waiting for them at the base of the wall.
