Roger Wild, the guide in charge of a training group avalanched in
Scotland two years ago, has been absolved of responsibility for the
incident which killed four Venture Scouts.
According to Ananova,
Sheriff Kenneth Forbes ruled in a Fatal Accident Inquiry Report that
guide Roger Wild, 47, was not responsible for tragedy on Aonach Mor,
near Ben Nevis, on December 29 1998.
Although the avalanche hazard was rated 'Considerable' on the
forecast scale, Wild and others argued that it was no worse than on
many other Scottish winter days and that it was normal practice to go
out on the hills in such conditions.
More detailed report in The
Independent which quotes Wild as saying, at the time of his
rescue, that he would willingly have "swapped places with any of
those who died".
