The Scottish Avalanche Information Service is up and running again
with avalanche and condition reports for the main Scottish mountain
areas appearing daily on their web site and also being posted in
strategic locations in the hills.
Avalanches are relatively common in Scotland and the SAIS is a
significant aid to mountain safety. It's also a handy way to keep
track of which winter crags are in condition. You can find the
latest
forecast at www.sais.gov.uk.
Regular OM users will know that we carry a summary of weekend
weather forecasts and links on Friday mornings. The most effective
general mountain forecast we've found however is the Mountain
Weather Information Service which carries detailed downloadable
forecasts in PDF formate including reports for both east and west
highland areas.
Meanwhile Metcheck
is forecasting a white Christmas, at least on the western side of the
UK :-)
