Big congratulations to Claire
MacLeod who has won a Scottish
New Talent BAFTA for Best Director for Echo Wall, the
stunning film of her husband Dave MacLeod's project to climb a
desperately hard new route on Ben Nevis.
The film was one of our favourite climbing DVDs of last year and the mix of
stunning scenery, a gripping story and some dramatically initimate and
personal footage of Dave makes it a must see in our book.
According to Dave's blog, the pair were convinced that the nomination
was as far as things would go and were genuinely stunned when Claire
was announced as the winner.
The reasons behind the award, Dave thinks were 'the practical challenge
of shooting a film like this single-handedly and the seriousness of
what Claire filmed (her other half risking neck), they liked the
personal nature of the film and the appreciation shown of the beauty of
the Lochaber in the shooting.'
Festival Awards
Not
only that, but in the same week, Echo Wall also won awards for the Best
Scottish Film at Fort William Mountain Festival and Best Film at
Glasgow Mountain Film Festival.
The Fort William Festival describes the film as charting 'the story of
a new level of determination and calculated risk taking in rock
climbing'.
