A timely warning for the sort of irresponsible people who probably
don't read OUTDOORSmagic with the news that three poorly equipped
people had to be rescued from Snowdon after starting up the mountain
at 6 pm.
The BBC reports that the trio began the ascent to the summit late
on expecting the cafe, which has now been demolished, to be open. As
it transpired it didn't really matter since they were benighted
before reaching the summit.
They used a mobile phone to call for help at 10pm and a Sea King
helicopter spotted them using a thermal-imaging system. They were
eventually taken off the mountain by the Llanberis MRT.
A spokesman for the team is quoted as saying:
"Llanberis MRT would remind walkers that despite the warm valley
weather recently, conditions on Snowdon can be very different. As
always, preparation and planning are crucial."
So two lessons, always carry spare clothing and a head torch and
remember, the cafe on top of Snowdon has been demolished...
