Berghaus is
doing its bit for this year's
Sports
Relief by kitting out support staff at checkpoints for the
Sainsbury’s Sport Relief
Mile events and providing clothing to Major
Phil Packer and Kate Silverton
who are tackling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mount Snowdon in 72 hours.
Silverton and Packer
summit on Scafell Pike
Phil Packer suffered a major spinal cord injury while on operational
duty in 2008 and following his rehabilitation he embarked on a series
of physical challenges in support of charity – in 2010, these included
rowing the Channel, walking the London Marathon in 14 days and hauling
himself up El Capitan with help from a team of climbers.
His latest challenge is the Three Peaks with TV presenter Kate
Silverton and a number of others including Steve Redgrave, Richard
Branson and Andy Kirkpatrick. Unfortunately the pair were forced to
turn back just 300 feet from the top of Ben Nevis due to severe
weather, but they succeeded in summiting in Scafell Pike on Sunday.
Berghaus PR supremo Chris Lines accompanied the pair to the summit of
England's highest mountain and
described the ascent as 'epic' - that's his image above.
Latest information is that the pair delayed their attempt on Snowdon
after arriving late from the Lake District due to bad conditions on the
mountain and are tackling the peak today, Monday. Good luck to them.
Sport Relief Mile
Berghaus is also kitting out 200 volunteer staff at checkpoints of
Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile events that will take place around the UK
on March 21 with specially branded Berghaus Skyline jackets to keep
them protected from the elements, as they assist runners taking part in
each of the 16 flagship miles across the country.
Berghaus is an official supporter of Sport Relief, which takes place
every two years and is part of the long established Comic Relief. Good
to see a major outdoors brand wholeheartedly supporting a great cause -
all the money raised by Sport Relief goes to help transform the lives
of poor and vulnerable people, both in the UK and across the world’s
poorest countries.
