One for the diary of London-based OMers, with news that Porters Progress UK
is running a Best of
Kendal Mountain Film Festival event at the Royal
Geographical Society on Tuesday 24 March.
The programme features some of the highlights from the 2008 Kendal
Mountain Film Festival, including the excellent double award-winning
'On Sight' by Alastair Lee, and ' Journey of a Red Fridge' which won
the award for Best Mountain Culture Film and features a 17-year old
porter as he carries a Coca Cola fridge to Pokhara for repairs.
The latter is particularly apt, since Porters Progress UK exists
to better the lot of porters and their communities and working with
porters to create change within the trekking industry. You can find out
more at www.portersprogressuk.org.
It's a great cause and one that will strike a chord with anyone who's
ever felt humbled by the extaordinary strength and stoicism
displayed by mountain porters.
Tickets for the evening are £10
and you can purchase online at the World
Expeditions web site - secure.worldexpeditions.com
or by cheque payable to Porters Progress UK enclosing an SAE to 972B
Garratt Lane, London SW17 0ND.
Date is Tuesday 24th March, 7pm - 10pm. The Royal Geographical Society,
1 Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AR. Telephone enquiries: 0800 074 4135
