Outdoor retailer Blacks is aiming to support the Fix The
Fells project to the tune of £10,000 with a fundraising
campaign in its stores this September.
The company will be donating £1 for each pair of footwear
sold in its shops over the next month up to a maximum of £10,000
with the money going to the initiative which aims to repair damaged
footpaths in the Lake District area.
The project, which is supported by the Lake District Tourism and
Conservation Partnership, National Trust, English Nature and the
Heritage Lottery Fund together with donations from the public, aims
to help save some 145 paths and provide crucial funding for the teams
who repair them.
"We're really excited to be helping the Fix The Fells appeal",
says Blacks Commercial Director, Mark Wootton. "As a team of keen
walkers we appreciate the need to maintain public footpaths, as they
remain an important part of our countryside."
Their contribution was welcomed by the Lake District National Park
Association's Richard Fox, who says it's one of the largest single
donations the campaign has received and that it will make 'a massive
difference'.
Blacks also support the LDNPA in a number of other joint schemes.
These include sponsoring the Weatherline service, which updates
travellers with twice daily reports on the weather in the Lake
District, either by visiting www.lake-district.gov.uk/weatherline
or by phoning 0870 055 0575.
If you don't want to buy your boots from Blacks, you can still
support Fix The Fells by donating directly at the campaign's web site
www.fixthefells.co.uk
where you can also find more about the initiative.
