The British Mountain
Guides - BMG - has a new
logo and a new
web site to go with it, which, they say, 'is crisp, clear
and contains all the information that anyone considering hiring a guide
needs to know'.
All British Mountain Guides are IFMGA qualified guides, which means
they are trained and qualified to lead parties in the most challenging
mountain environments. And if you're wondering exactly what that means,
you can find out on the new web site as well as checking out how to
become a guide yourself. Hint, you need to be an outstanding climber,
skiier and mountaineer to begin with.
That means you need to be able to consistently lead E1-graded
multi-pitch rock, climb consistently at Grade V Scottish and above,
have major alpine mountaineering ticks and be an experienced off-piste skier and
ski mountaineer.
Why Hire A Guide?
Hiring a mountain guide is a fantastic way of both pushing
your limits and learning technical skills in the mountains, plus
widening your horizons generally. It could be a way of tackling that
Scottish winter route that's right at the limits of your abilities and
experience or making the most of an alpine mountaineering holiday
secure in the knowledge that you're in the hands of one of the best
qualified mountaineers around.
There are around 200 BMG members out there and the new site
contains full contact details along with a search mechanism you can use
to locate a suitable guide. Members include top climbers like Andy
Cave, Kenton Cool, Twid Turner and Andy Perkins, but who-ever you
choose, you know that they're massively experienced and qualified.
You can find the new BMG site at www.bmg.org.uk
