North East-based OMers will be able to catch mountaineering legend Chris Bonington lecturing
for free at the MetroCentre
in Gatehead this Saturday
11 October as Berghaus celebrates it's own brand store's
first birthday.

Chris will be holding three talks during the day which together
normally for his 'Why I Chose To Climb' Lecture, admisssion for which
would typically be around £15. You can catch him at the
MetroCentre's town square.
Climbing Wall Competition
Other birthday treats are in store too, there's due to be a 7.5-metre
climbing wall where shoppers can race one another to land
£500 worth of Berghaus goodies, Sir Chris will be signing
books at the Berghaus shop in the Red Mall and comedian Mark Olver ,
who recently walked from his home in Bristol to the Edinburgh Festival,
will also be keeping the crowds amused during the day.
'A First For Me..'
Sir Chris, who is chairman of Berghaus said: "This is a first
for me. I have climbed Everest, scaled many unclimbed
mountains and explored the remote places of the world, but presenting
my adventures in a shopping centre will be a completely new experience."
