Brits Triumph In Extreme Ironing Championships

Forget the Ryder Cup - if you haven't already - our boys have won where it matters in the Extreme Ironing World Championships. A top effort...

Ooops, we've been a bit slow on this one, but fantastic news by pigeon from Germany where the British team triumphed in the first Extreme Ironing World Championships.

Team GB1 and GB3 did fantastically well to clinch first and third places in the team event despite fierce competition. The individual event was won by German specialist 'Hot Pants' who triumphed over an 80-strong field to take the honours.

The whole thing is a massive vindication of iron specialist Rowenta's decision to sponsor the British team and a ringing endorsement of the effectiveness of their irons in extreme conditions.

Touchingly we also received an e-mail from the sport's founder, the legendary 'Steam' thanking us for our advance coverage of the event. Unfortunately our reply bounced, but if you're reading this mate, keep keeping the creases at bay and congratulations.

You can read more about this fantastic British triumph on the BBC News site, well worth a visit and check out the picture highlights here. Or take a look at the Extreme Ironing web site.

Think mines made by Phillips. Is that the ironing equivalent of Gelert?
