Aviemore and the Cairngorms are to start a pioneering new 24 hour a day tourist information system from tomorrow (10th July). Aviemore and the Cairgorms Destination Management Limited have set up three trial terminals that use Bluetooth to pass event information directly to users phones. Although the company believe it to be the first system of its kind it's very similar to the system already in use in Lathkill Dale, with users having the option to accept or reject the Bluetooth connection and free information.

If the three trial terminals, at Aviemore town centre, Rothiemurchus Visitor Centre and Corri Cas car park, are succesful the plan is to introduce new information including late accommodation availability along with commercial entries of things to do, events and eating and drinking ideas. With mobile phone reception often less than desired the Bluetooth connection is an ideal, short range, solution as you don't need mobile reception to receive it. Bluetooth is available, free of charge, on most modern mobile phones and other portable devices and could become increasingly common as a central source for opt in information services.
