Carrington is the new President
of the British Mountaineering Council after a vote at the
weekend's BMC Annual General Meeting.
Carrington won the vote by 639 votes to 281 for his rival,
mountaineering legend, Doug Scott, and succeeds the outgoing president
Dr Charles Clarke for the next three years. He's been a Vice President
for the last three years, so should be more than familiar with how
Britain's mountaineering governing body works.
Also elected at the weekend was Audrey Seguy, who is now a Vice
President as well as current British bouldering and lead climbing
champion and the Managing Director of the Castle Climbing Centre in
North London.
