Outdoors guidebook publisher Cicerone Press has
launched a free iPhone
app which allows you to browse their list of titles on
your phone and more.
The app includes a 'Locate Me' button which will give your position as
an eight-figure OS grid reference, a button which submits photos to the
Cicerone web site, a mountain safety guide with tips on how to handle
emergency situations and the option to enter a monthly competition to
win a voucher to buy guideboks at a 30% discount.
We've just downloaded the app - you can find it by searching for
Cicerone in the app store - and the one quibble we have with it, is
that the search on the book list is very basic. You can only search by
the first word of the title, so if you want to find, say, a guide to
the Peak District and search for 'Peak', there are no results.
It works better if you simply scroll down the list till you find
something you like then click through for a cover image, price,
publication date, page count, ISBN number and a short description.
