At last, scientific confirmation of what we all knew anyway - yep,
climbers and other 'dangerous sports' addicts have the same
risk-taking genetic make-up as crackheads and other loveable
junkies.
According to a story in yesterday's Observer magazine, scientists
at London University have found genes that incline people towards
'novelty-seeking' behaviour and openess to new experiences.
Frightening stuff huh? You wouldn't wish that sort of deviant
behaviour on anyone.
The good old BMC played the findings with a very straight bat
rubbishing any idea that climbers might possibly be open to the idea
of drug-taking. A BMC spokesman is quoted as saying that the
organisation knew of 'anecdotal reports of links between thrill
seeking and drug taking' but added: 'We strongly disapprove of drug
taking in our sport'.
Next stop? Scientists discover that Ramblers have the same genetic
make up as transvestites and the RA comments: 'We strongly disapprove
of cross-dressing in our sport'.
Scientists, don't you just love them? For the full story on the

I couldn't help thinking about Jim Perrin's nororious article when he soloed Coronation Street while off his face on speed or was it coke? Loses it halfway up when he stops for a rest... But yeah, that would seem about right, or they could combine the two as above.
