Coastal Access Campaign Hots Up

With time running out on the consultation process for coastal access, recreational and conservation organisations - including the BMC and the Ramblers' Association - have organised a joint press call today to highlight the issues involved.

The groups - the British Mountaineering Council, Ramblers' Association, British Caving Association, British Canoe Union, CPPR, CTC, Equestrian Access Forum, IMBA-UK, National Trust, Open Spaces Soicety and YHA - have put together an event on the North Somerset Coast to demonstrate 'how a full coastal experience can be achieved at Brean Down'.

One Third Inaccessible...

With almost a third of our coastline inaccessible, the alliance is pressing for a permanent right of access to our coastline, but with an emphasis also on how recreation and conservation can go hand in hand.

The BMC and others support a permanent right of access to a 'coastal corridor' extending from the mean low water mark to a point inland and including beaches, foreshores and cliffs. You can find details on how to support the campaign and downloadable letters which you can send to your local MP or local assembly member at www.thebmc.co.uk
