Coastal Access Campaign Hots Up

With time running out on the consultation process for coastal access, recreational and conservation organisations - including the BMC and the Ramblers' Association - have organised a joint press call today to highlight the issues involved.

The groups - the British Mountaineering Council, Ramblers' Association, British Caving Association, British Canoe Union, CPPR, CTC, Equestrian Access Forum, IMBA-UK, National Trust, Open Spaces Soicety and YHA - have put together an event on the North Somerset Coast to demonstrate 'how a full coastal experience can be achieved at Brean Down'.

One Third Inaccessible...

With almost a third of our coastline inaccessible, the alliance is pressing for a permanent right of access to our coastline, but with an emphasis also on how recreation and conservation can go hand in hand.

The BMC and others support a permanent right of access to a 'coastal corridor' extending from the mean low water mark to a point inland and including beaches, foreshores and cliffs.
