Photography enthusiasts out there will be interested to learn that Colin Prior is launching his new book, 'The World's Wild Places', on 5th October, at the Oxo Gallery, in London. An exhibition of his wilderness snapshots will be on display there until 22nd October. If the Oxo's a bit of a long train ride, you'll be pleased to know that the exhibition will also tour Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness through 2006 and 2007.
'The World's Wild Places' itself features photographs from remote locations including (we're told): "the shifting ice sheets of Greenland, the oxygen-starved Atacama Desert, the icy spires of Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains and the absolute isolation of New Zealand’s Fjordland". It's not all about the photos though. There's also an article on each countinent, all written by leading environmentalists from the region, and an introduction by Ian Player, founder of the World Wilderness Congress. The articles examine the way that wilderness areas are diminishing and the effect this will have on our lives.
Colin Prior's certainly one of the world's best known landscape photographers, and a bit of a household name, so we won't give you the full CV. We'll try and catch up with him at some point though, and find out what he has to say about his home in the Scottish Highlands, environmental damage, and anything else you want to know...
If you want to catch up with him yourself, he'll be around the exhibition in the OXO Gallery to discuss his photography and sign copies of 'The World's Wild Places'. Admission is free and the gallery's open daily from 11 am to 6 pm. See www.oxotower.co.uk for further details.
