A quick heads up for the 2009
Coniston Walking Festival which takes place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September
based in and around the popular Lake District town.

The festival, as usual, features a mix of evening entertainment based
around the town, daytime activities for the whole family and historic
adventures. This year's star turns are local lad turned climbing
superstar, Leo Houlding
- just back from Project
Asgard - who'll be leading one of the tougher
walks up Coniston Old Man over the weekend as well as lecturing on his
climbing adventures.
Then there's Rebecca Stephens, the first British woman to summit
Everest who'll be leading two walks and lecturing and finally Richard
Leafe who is currently the Chief Executive of the Lake District
National Park Authority.
The great thing about Coniston is the level of thought that's clearly
gone into the walks programme. For example, there's an imaginative
sunrise walk including watching dawn from the summit of Old Man
followed by a cooked breakfast at Harry's, which is included in the
£8.00 price.
Then there's a mixed trail and pony trek, gorge scrambling for the more
adventurous, a Mountain Rescue demo from the local team and lots more.
