A quick heads up on the 2008
Coniston Walking Festival, which kicks off in just ten
days time running over the weekend of 26-28 September.
The organisers tell us that the selection of guided walks has been very
popular and that some of the more strenuous ones already being sold
out. Looking at the programme, there are some nice ideas on offer.
You can start Saturday, for example, with a Sunrise Walk and Breakfast,
with a saunter up Coniston Old Man and back being followed by a
well-earned cooked breakfast. The downside is the start time of 5 am
:-) Other routes take in Wetherlam and Tarn Hows and there are
opportunities to go gorge scrambling or learn about GPS or map and
compass navigation.
The highlight of Saturday evening should be Nick Crane talking about
'Great British Journeys' based on his TV series and book of the same
name. Apparently there are just 15 tickets left for Nick's talk, so if
you want to go along, you'd best be quick with it.
There's lots more besides and you can find full details along with
online booking at www.conistonwalkingfestival.org.
