Conquer A Corbett Back For 2008
Charity challenge with a difference returns with aim of putting a climber on top of every Corbett.

We don't normally cover charity challenges, not because
there's anything wrong with them, quite the opposite
generally, but because if we did we'd be swamped however once again
we're going to make a special exception for Macmillan Conquer a
Corbett challenge.
Why? Well, while many charity challenges like the infamous three
peaks expeditions, seem calculated to concentrate wear on already
popular mountain areas, the Macmillan version does pretty much the
opposite.
The idea is that you simply choose a Corbett - one of 219 Scottish
mountains between 2500 feet and 2999 feet high - register your choice
with Macmillan and make an ascent of the peak any time in May.

You can do it alone or as a part of a group and, if you choose to,
you can climb more than one Corbett. And rather neatly, Corbett's
range from quite serious 'almost Munros' down to beginner-friendly,
more rounded tops.
Last year the charity says that fundraisers climbed 129 Corbetts
raising over £40,000 to help fight cancer in the process. This
year they'd like to knock off every one of the 219 and raise even
more cash along the way.
Maurice Hickey, who took part last year in memory of his father
who died from cancer, is going to be out there again and urges other
walkers to consider taking part.
"When I did the event last year I really enjoyed the climb, and I
think there's no better place in the world to remember someone than
on the top of a mountain or hill. This year I will climb to the top
and toast my dad, and I'm hoping to have a group of people with
me."

Well I was toying with doing this and was spurred on with the shock/bad news I recieved last week. My grampa was diagnosed with prostate cancer, hopefully it has been caught early as it was a routine blood test that flagged it up. Still a shock though. Anyway Ive signed up and grabbed Ben Donich, I'm planning to fit it in around the 10th of may but it will be work that ultimately dictates the actual date. I just wondered if anybody else on here was thinking of bagging a corbett for Macmillan? I figure I'll be contributing to a worthy cause and doing something I love at the same time.
