Some 36 premieres at Kendal this weekend including the much anticipated Welsh Connections.
A quick last minute heads up on this year's
Kendal Mountain Festival
which takes place this coming weekend -
19-22 November -
with no fewer than
60
films in total including 15 World Premieres, 12 European
ones and nine British including a very special film from Wales.
Pete Whittaker on The
Quarryman from Welsh Connections
which premieres on Friday evening
Those premieres include the Friday night showing of Alastair Lee's
eagerly awaited film of Leo Houlding's
Asgard Project which
is now sold out, but you can still catch the film later in the weekend
as part of the overall film competition - what price yet another award
for the acclaimed Lancashire-based film maker?
Welsh Connections
If you've missed out on the Lee premiere, a promising
alternative is
Welsh
Connections made by
Dave
Brown, ex of Hotaches. It's showing at 5pm on Friday and
is one of the most eagerly antipated films of the weekend. Climbers
featured include the likes of Pete Robins, Tim Emmett, Johnny Dawes,
James McHaffie, Pete Whittaker, Nick Bullock, Chris Doyle, Chris Davies
and Gav Symonds.
As you've probably deduced, it's all about Welsh climbing covering
everything from hard trad onsights and first ascents, via intense
limestone and slate sport climbing through to bouldering and dramatic
deep-water solos.
Here's the trailer:
Dave Brown sums it up: “We wanted to make a film for climbers, not a TV
documentary. The sort of film that you’ll want to watch again - lots of
good climbing on interesting routes. Plenty of action and not too much
introspection and analysis. But more than anything else we wanted to
make a film that was fun. Fun to make and fun to watch.”
