Crag Access Row In The West Country

The BMC takes on Bristol City Council over climbing on Suspension Bridge Buttress...

Suspension Bridge Buttress - http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/~stefan/images.htmlBristol City Council has just banned access to Suspension Bridge Buttress, where many a climber has spent a happy chalked-up hour or three in the past. Needless to say, the good folks at the BMC aren’t exactly having a party about the decision, and they need the help of concerned climbers to be in with a chance of changing the Council’s mind.

The Crag is a popular climbing spot in Avon and if you want it to stay that way, there’s an online petition where you can shake your virtual head disapprovingly and wag your virtual finger. Local climbing walls also have paper copies if you think the pen is mightier than the keyboard, and if you happen to live in the vicinity. The petition will be presented to Bristol City Council on May 1st so make sure you add your name before then.

“Signing will provide evidence for support to reinstate access - sign it today!” is the BMC’s comment-cum-rallying cry. They’ll also keep you posted with any updates on the situation so keep your eye on the Regional Access Database for the latest.

More information from the BMC.
