New to the web is recommendedforareason.com, a blog site in honour of outdoor enthusiasts and DofE officially recommended kit, it says here.

You won't then be surprised to learn that the site is all about the DofE and has been established to ' bring you the latest news on DofE expeditions, outdoor gear reviews, participant blog posts and much, much more'.

reccomendedforareason site

It's been put together by some of the award scheme's gear partners, so there's a fair bit of information about recommended gear along with some video kit reviews and the officially recommended kit as a downloadable pdf. And yes, there are an awful lot of 'recommendeds' in this article...

On top of that, there's practical advice about, for example, preparing for a winter expedition, which has been put together in conjunction with Mountain Rescue groups. And last but not least, by registering for the site, you could win various prizes. In December that means you could land £100-worth of Duke of Edinburgh Recommended kit.

Hi D of E how much will the Gear cost?

Its a joke really the way they have got manufacturers to sponsor it. Who really needs a aluminium sigg lunch box on a dofe expedition or a pacsafe.

Err... this isn't the DofE website.  Or even a DofE forum on this website.

Or was your post intended to be a subtle dig at the DofE?  In which case, it's a good point...

"This site and content provided & managed by Burton McCall Ltd."

Hmmm... I wonder if the recommendations will feature products by the companies they distribute...

Well, looking at the list, I was expecting to find that standard DofE expedition kit list, especially as it's headed "The official Duke of Edinburgh Kit List"

But I don't.

Hmmmm...
