We're a tiny bit late on this one, but right now we're in the
middle of Autumn Footprints, the Amber Valley and Erewash
Walking Festival in Derbyshire which started on Saturday 8
September and runs through to Sunday 23 September.
The nub of the festival is a programme of 32 free guided
walks over 16 days in the area in the heart of Derbyshire. The
walks vary in length and severity and will take place in areas of
local heritage and natural history interest, taking walkers alongside
rivers and canals as well as through towns and villages.

The mayor opens the festival with the traditional
cutting of the
festival cake. Er, shouldn't it be a ribbon? Still I guess cakes
taste
nicer than ribbons...
Distances range from one mile up to nine miles and should cater
for everyone from beginners to experienced walkers with the leaders
being enthusiastic locals.
Absolute beginners might be particularly interested in the Map
Reading for Beginners class on the afternoon of Friday 14 September,
with two hours of free basic instruction.
