Just in case you missed it, an interesting article on Whillans and Jim Perrin's biography of the legendary Mancunian climber by climbing journalist Ed Douglas.

Just a quick head's up to an interesting Ed Douglas article in this weekend's excellent Observer Sports Monthly supplement.

Titled 'The Vertical Beatnik', it uses the publication of Jim Perrin's biography of the legendary Don Whillans to look both at Whillans himelf and, as an aside, Perrin himself and the way his own life interlocked with the likes of Whillans and Brown in Manchester.

It's an interesting piece and touches on stuff like the relationships between Whillans and his climbing partners Joe Brown and Chris Bonington. Well worth a read.

'The Villain: The Life of Don Whillans' is published by Hutchinson. Reviewed in the Observer by Peter Beaumont.
