Just a quick last minute heads up for the Edinburgh Mountain
Film Festival which takes place this weekend, 20-22
October.
As you may well have guessed, it's a festival of mountain films in
Edinburgh, but there's a lot more too including lectures from
the likes of Andy Cave and Tim Emmett along with a
full-on festival party. There's also an ongoing mountain art
exhibition at Edinburgh Fine Art Library.
Film highlights include:
Kilimanjaro which follows quadruple amputee Jamie Andrew's
attempt on Africa's highest mountain in company with Paul Pritchard
and two other climbers.
The Totem Pole which tells the story of two Spanish
climbers' attempt on the Tasmanian stack where Pritchard had his
life-changing accident.
E11 the story of Dave MacLeod's ascent of the monumentally
hard Rhaphsody, the world's first E11 near Dumbarton - the route took
MacLeod almost two years to climb and the film follows his
progress.
Lots more too including lots of short, sharp films covering
everything from base-jumping to extreme skiing. As well as Cave and
Emmett, other lecturers include Guy Greive, Neil Birnie and Guy
Robertson.
The event is based at the George Square Lecture Theatre at
Edinburgh University and tickets are on sale from Tiso
and Alien Rock and by phone from Tiso by calling 0131 554 0804
or 0131 225 9486.
Tickets will also be on sale on the door where there are places
left.
