CommittedA riot of 'E' numbers is set to hit the big screen in Sheffield next weekend, as climbing film 'Committed' premieres at the Climbing Works bouldering wall.

The film was made by Hot Aches, who also produced E11 and the footage of Dave MacLeod's attempt on bonkers-hard route Rhapsody, on Dumbarton Rock. 'Committed' doesn't focus on a single route as E11 does though. Instead, it takes you on a whirlwind tour of some of the hardest trad climbing ever done, including James Pearson on grit E10, Dave MacLeod on Indian Face and Ben Cossey on Parthain Shot.

Eighty minutes, 200 E numbers - which must be more than you get in a jelly baby - and only £6 for the privilege (£5 for concessions and Climbing Works members). You can't say fairer than that!

The screening takes place on Sunday 14th October at 8.15pm and tickets are available on the door or from the Climbing Works in advance.

Bring your rock boots too, as this is the first ever screening at the wall, and bouldering will be on the menu until fifteen minutes before the screening starts. Bouldering at E-levels of difficulty is, of course, optional.

And if you still need convincing, whet your appetite with the online trailer - it's nail-biting stuff, and very chalky nails they are too:-)

Dave MacLeod Talks In Sheffield

Dave MacLeodIf that's not enough, put Sunday 9th December in your diary as well and trot along to the Climbing Works to listen to Dave MacLeod's new lecture, To Hell and Back.

It may not sound too cheerful, but it tackles the important question of whether you can remain in 'real' control even on an unprotected E10. Dave reckons you can, although we'd argue that it depends who's doing the climbing.

The talk includes images and film of his recent routes, 'To Hell and Back' (E10), 'If Six Was Nine' (E9), and 'Rhapsody' (E11), as well as giving a sneak glimpse of his future projects. All sounds good.

AGain, the venue is the Climbing Works in Sheffield and tickets are available on the door - £5 for concessions and Climbing Works members; £6 for the rest of us.

Just one warning: the theme of climbing has been built into the seating arrangements for the talk, so be prepared to sit on a bouldering mat!
