The Ramblers' Association Festival
of Winter Walks is back for another year with more than
750 free walks taking place between Boxing
Day 2008 and 4 January, 2009.
The Festival first ran some 20 years ago, back in 1988 when the
programme comprised just 80 winter walks with some 1,000 walkers taking
part. Fast forward to 2008 and the festival is Britain's largest
celebration of walking with over 750 walks across the country, all of
which are free to join.
In addition, if you do go along on one of the walks and aren't a member
of the Ramblers' Association, you can join on the day and score an
impressive 20 per-cent discount. As a bonus, ladies, the festival is
supported by dishy posh TV presenter, Ben Fogle, though obviously he
won't be on every walk.
Ben says: 'Walking is a perfect way to escape and unwind after a hectic
Christmas. What better way to introduce yourself to the delights of
walking than stepping out in the crisp air of a winter’s day
on a free, festive Winter Walks stroll?'
The walks range from gentle 4-mile lowland strolls through to more
ambitious 14-milers in the hills. All ages are welcome and you don't
have to be a member of the RA to take part.
