The organisers of this year's Kendal Mountain Film Festival, sponsored by Berghaus, tell us that tickets are going fast and if you want to be sure of getting in, you'd better get on with it.

Particularly at risk are the special IMax presentations of the Everest movie - though North Westerners might like to note that you can also catch this in Manchester right now - you can book tickets on the web www.mountainfilm.co.uk or phone 01539 725760 or 725133.

The web site's also the best place to find out what's showing and when, but we shamelessly reproduce the latest festival publicity shot below:

ART, PHOTO and FILM SEMINARS

We are having two seminars that may be of interest:

SONY Film Makers Seminar. Your chance to ask a panel of experts any questions you may have on filmmaking. Topics covered will include Equipment, Editing, Composition, Future advances and formats. Saturday lunch time in the Brewery Arts Centre.

Art and Photography Seminar. Again a panel of experts : Julian Heaton Cooper, Jim Curran, Andy Parkin, Trevor Avvery, Steve Razzetti hosted by Terry Gifford will discuss techniques, equipment, composition and other relevant topics on art and photography in the mountains. Sunday lunch time in the Brewery Arts Centre.

It is your final chance to get those photographs into the Therm a Rest and Eagle Creek Photo competition. See the web for entry details.

SCARPA BOULDERING COMPETITION USE WORLD CUP BOULDERS

The Kendal Mountain Film Festival will be holding it's prestigious annual open bouldering competition in conjunction with Scarpa, the Lakeland Climbing Centre Ltd (Kendal Wall). Competition will be keen with some of the countries top climbers entering. Past winners have included Malcolm Smith, Andy Earl, Eve Prickett and Lucy Creamer.

There will be four categories: Open, Women, Veterans (40 and over) and Juniors (16 and under) with cash prizes totalling £750.

All are welcome to enter for either fun or serious climbing with the preliminary rounds starting on Friday 16th November at 5 pm and carry through Saturday with the finals being held on Sunday morning in Kendal Town Hall on a Special World Cup style boulder supplied by Entre Prise.

A special entry price to the wall and competition for all Festival ticket holders will be £4. None festival ticket holders will be charged standard wall entry fees and will have to pay a £15 fee to enter the competition.

Climbers can enter on the day but it helps organisation to register and indicate their category with Kate Phillips on e mail info@kendalwall.u-net.com or phone 01539 721766. More details and location of the Kendal Wall can be found on www.kendalwall.u-net.com

FILMS

We have virtually finalised our pre-judging. This year we had almost 200 entries - double last year! We have narrowed this down to 50 so expect some great films. We will release the film program in a few days time so expect another e-mail soon.
