Chaps with chopper grounded by low cloud in attempt to set new record for UK and Ireland's highest peaks
An attempt to set a 'new world record' by ascending the five highest peaks in the UK and Eire has been postponed due to low cloud, but is apparently set to be re-scheduled for Wednesday.
A team of six north west-based walkers is being helicoptered from peak to peak in an attempt to climb them all within 24 hours - predictably enough it's all for cheridy, mate. The cheridy in question being the Kingsmoor Park Properties Charitable Trust, named after the Kingsmoor Park development site in Carlisle, which is owned by team leader Brian Scowcroft. The Trust donates money to various charities.
The team is hoping to raise £60,000 and will begin at Carrantuohill in Eire before flying north to Slieve Donard then on to Snowdon and Scafell Pike before finishing on Ben Nevis. The helicopter does 130 mph.
For more information, see the web site complete with a funky interactive image of Langdale, a map of the route and, erm, the inside of the 'new helicopter'. Boys and their toys eh.
