Just a quick heads up that over this Bank Holiday weekend around 100 top adventure racers including James Cracknell – read Nik Cook's great Q and A session with him for OM – will be competing in the 2011 adidas TERREX Coast to Coast race and thanks to the wonders of modern technology, you can follow them live on the web right now.
The race is a four-day epic, starting today, Friday, covering around 200 miles between St Bees Head and Robin Hood's Bay with running, biking, kayaking, swimming and navigating on the fly all playing a part in the race.
The honest truth is that watching adventure racing live is kind of dull. By its nature, it tends to be linear, so you mostly just catch a fleeting glimpse of sweaty, lycra-clad athletes as they fly or limp past.
Ironically, the view from a distance is rather more entertaining and the good news is that you can follow the race live on the web all the way through. There's an excellent live tracking page powered by Ordnance Survey mapping where you can see exactly where the individual teams are on the ground.
At the time of writing, Berghaus Adventure is in the lead, with James Cracknell's adidas TERREX team hot their heels...
On top of that there are live twitter updates with a feed on the site, daily photographs from the race and reports uploaded from the ground. Plus you can watch video of last year's event to get a feel of what it's all about.
