38 Degrees helped to stop the selling of state-owned forests

It’s not very often that I’ll be prodded into political action but the news of the proposed forest sell off really had me worried. As a mountain biker and trail runner, the future of some of my favourite stomping grounds would have been in genuine jeopardy.

I contacted my local MP and signed the online petition organised by 38 Degrees. We’ve just received the good news below from David Babbs at 38 Degrees and, for their good work, we’ll let him ask for your hard earned cash!

What a relief. After worrying rumours and some last-minute campaigning, we've finally seen the government's forest panel report.

"The government says it accepts the recommendations and will halt plans to sell off state-owned forests." BBC News website

In other words, we did it! They recommend keeping our woodlands in public hands.

Not long ago, we were all told that this was impossible. Experts, politicians, and journalists all said the forest sell-off was a done deal. We faced the bleak prospect of 'For Sale' signs up in woodlands across the country. But that was before hundreds of thousands of us came together with one shared message: keep our woodlands safe. We signed petitions, we contacted our MPs, we chipped in whatever we could afford. Together, we changed events.

Millions of people will now be able to continue to enjoy our beautiful woodlands. Wildlife will continue to thrive in them. If you ever needed a reminder that it's worth getting involved, surely this is it.

So, I wanted to ask if you would be willing to help celebrate successes like these, and invest in more for the future, by making a regular donation to 38 Degrees?

38 Degrees allows thousands of us to get together, to help shape the decisions that affect our lives, and the lives of future generations. Together we’ve found a way to make our voices powerful enough to stand up to big business and high profile politicians.

Regular donations from members keep 38 Degrees campaigning. It’s cheap to run the office and the website, but it isn’t free. Regular donations pay for our tiny staff team and the technical tools we need, to research the campaigns and turn people-powered plans into action.

A small weekly donation of £2 or £3 is enough to help make sure we can keep on running successful campaigns, and plan responsibly for the future. Please give what you can, to make sure we can keep on campaigning together:

Im all for saving the forests, but I dont like to see this kind of hardcore left wing political self absorbed, arrogant, ignorant, manipulative and very successful 38 degrees group stirring up trouble. Whatever they admit to publicly. They certainly have their own hardcore left wing agenda. I Dont trust em. A lot of what they peddle is plain propaganda, and some of it has been highly innacurate. And they are some of the biggest spammers on the web.

Oh dear - hardcore left wing?

because they question some government  policies?
