In a move we unaccountably missed when it happened last week, the
Forestry Commission, Britain's largest landowner, has made the
decision to grant access rights to walkers in perpetuity.
Woods and forests were excluded from the new access legislation
despite pressure for their inclusion, but the new decision should
guarantee walkers' access to Forestry Commission land as of right as
well as covering any woods that might be sold into private ownership
in the future.
