A quick heads up to remind you that the 2008 Fort William
Mountain Festival starts this Friday 15 February and runs
through until the following Saturday 23 February.
As usual the festival, billed as a 'celebration of mountain
culture', is a mix of films, lectures, exhibitions, workshops and
more. Headline speakers include Kenton Cool, talking about 'The
Modern Face of Everest' and together with Matt Dickinson leading a
discussion of whether Everest has become a 'morality-free zone'.
Other speakers include Cameron McNeish and Jo Gamby, half of the
first married couple to climb all seven summits, who will be
headlining a mountaineering evening on Thursday 21 February.
On the film side, there's a 'Best of Banff' evening with stunning
films direct from the Banff Mountain Film Festival, the screening of
Skye Wall from Al Lee's Psyche and lots more.
On top of that there's a wealth of practical workshops including
some aimed at young people and the culmination of mountain film,
photography and writing competitions.
On the final day of the Festival, Hamish MacInnes will be
presented with the inaugural Scottish Award for Excellence in
Mountain Culture.
