If you’re looking for some vertiginous armchair adventures, Alastair Lee’s Posing Productions is a great place to start and just in time for Christmas, they’ve got four new DVD’s out.
First up is Moonflower which premiered to wide acclaim at the Kendal Mountain Film Festival and features Brits Jon Bracey and Matt Helliker's desperate first ascent on the rather chilly Moonflower buttress, Mt Hunter in Alaska.
Next is the DVD of the Reel Rock Film Tour 2011. I’ve seen this DVD in my capacity as a judge for the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival and it’s a fantastic compilation. Personal highlights include a film on a 9-year old climbing prodigy that’ll leave you feeling decidedly inadequate and an insane film documenting the race for the Nose speed record on El Cap.
The Long Hope charters Dave MacLeod's historic new climb, The Longhope Route Direct (E11), first climbed in 1970 by climber and poet Ed Drummond.
Finally Vertical Sailing Greenland, winner of the Best Mountain Adventure Film at the 2011 Kendal Mountain Film Festival. This film follows a top team of four climbers (Nicolas, Olivier Favresse, Ben Ditto, Sean Villenueva) and Scottish Reverend Captain Bob Shepton on a climbing sailing expedition to the West Coast of Greenland. Despite the seriousness of the climbing, it shows them laughing, having fun and playing music in the most bizarre locations.
