A mystery donor has come up with the £38,000 needed to allow
the programme of free guided walks in the Lake District National Park
to continue for at least another year.
Lake District chiefs, who had planned to end the walks because of
concerns that they attracted mainly white, middle-aged, middle class
people, met this morning and reportedly admitted that they had been
wrong to consider ending the walks.
The mystery cash will give the authority a breathing space to
consider what happens next, though according to a BBC
News report, a further £100,000 would be needed to keep the
walks running in 2006.
The identity of the mystery benefactor is a mystery :-)
Actually the identity of the mysterious benefactor is no longer a secret, it's Hawkshead, the Lakes-based outdoor clothing and footwear company, which also supports 'Fix The Fells' through a donation on every pair of their fell boots sold.

Hurrah!!! Nice to see common sense has prevailed. That and a useful £38,000 donation helped. I wonder who the donor was?

This is really good news. At least I'll have something to do in the summer now. Perhaps the donor was an organisation or a business. Whoever it was, it's very good or them.

The BNP? After all, we know that guided walks are part of the White Supremacist Conspiracy... ;-)
