One of the highlights of the Lake District outdoor events programme is taking place this week with a seven-day celebration of the benefits and accessibility of the UK 15 national parks.
The event which runs from Monday 25 July through until Sunday 31 July is being marked in the Lake District with 33 specific activities all over Cumbria covering wildlife, guided walks, art shows, music festivals, archaeological drop-in sessions, and a celebration of multi-cultural communities.
The chairman of the Association of National Park Authorities, Car Lis, said,
“National Parks Week is a great opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors in a way that’s not only fun but healthy and good for the body and mind. National parks are kept beautiful, open and accessible so that everyone can take time out from the stresses of daily life to refresh mind, body and spirit in stunning natural surroundings.”
Stand-out events in the Lake District national parks week programme include
- Coniston uncovered by open canoe Tuesday 26th July
- Lake cruises with a national park ranger Ullswater on Tuesday 26th July and Windermere Wednesday 27th July.
- Women only guided walk Ullswater Information Centre on Thursday 28th July.
- Community spirit fun day Brockhole, Lake District Visitor Centre, Windermere on Sunday 31st July.
National Park Events Co-ordinator Andrea Hills said,
“With the week-long celebration coinciding in with the start of school holidays everyone was excited about the prospect of a very busy and popular week of events. It’s going to be such a fantastic part of our summer events programme, with something for virtually everyone every day of the week. Completing the week with the Community Spirit Cumbria event on Sunday full of traditional drum music, dragon boats, and oriental cookery demonstrations will be a really dramatic finale.”
